date: 07/07/2009

Participants will have the opportunity to learn from the pros during a youth hockey school with the Knoxville Ice Bears! Experience a fun-filled week learning skills, drills, skating, stick handling, passing, shooting, and scoring techniques from your favorite Ice Bears players and coaches!

The camp will be held for any children who want to learn the sport of hockey. It will take place Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24 at Cool Sports home of the Ice Arium, located at 110 S. Watt Road in Knoxville. Ice Bears head coach Marc Rodgers and president / GM Mike Murray will be teaching on-ice and off-ice techniques and will supervise all activities. Various other Ice Bears stars will also be in attendance.

Head coach Marc Rodgers has an extensive hockey career that includes several leagues, such as the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), ECHL, International Hockey League (IHL), American Hockey League (AHL), Deutsche Eishockey Liga (a German ice hockey league referred to as DEL), National Hockey League (NHL) and the United Hockey League (UHL). He played 11 years of pro hockey, and was a part of five championships. Rodgers also had a brief stint in the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings in 1999-2000 playing 21 games.

He is no stranger to Knoxville. Rodgers was a member of the Knoxville Cherokees (ECHL) during the 1993-94 season, and then came back to play with the Knoxville Speed (UHL) in 2001. He became the assistant coach of the Knoxville Ice Bears in 2006.

Mike Murray was a draft pick of the New York Islanders, spent three years with the Philadelphia Flyers, was the director of the Mike Murray Hockey School and has played in over 500 professional hockey games.

"We always look forward to this time of year wherein we can break away from the norm and enjoy spending time with the kids that want to have fun experiencing the skills it takes to play hockey. I have been quite fortunate to have lived many of these experiences and feel just as fortunate to share these lessons and life lessons through this great sport,” commented president and general manager Mike Murray.

The hockey school fee is $385.00 and $185.00 for goalies. There is also a family discount available. A second player is $345.00, a third player is $285.00 and a fourth player is $195.00. Fees include: hockey school, Knoxville Ice Bears school jersey, T-shirt, team picture, and a pizza party scheduled for Friday, July 24.

Registration forms are also available at the Ice Bears office.
