Emery Olauson’s hat trick stops 6-game Ice Bears skid

date: 02/10/2012

Finally, the Knoxville Ice Bears found some relief Thursday night.

Veteran forward Emery Olauson had a hat trick and the Ice Bears beat Fayetteville 5-4 in overtime in a Southern Professional Hockey League game before 2,542 fans at Civic Coliseum.

The Ice Bears (23-11-3) broke a six-game losing streak.

“It felt good to get the money off our back,” Olauson said. “Hopefully we can get rolling again.”

Olauson scored the winning goal on a breakaway with teammate Kevin Swider, whose shot was blocked by goalie Mike Brown and knocked back in front of the net. Olauson was there to fire it in.

“(Swider) gave me the puck back door, and I got a good piece of it,  but it also hit my backhand on my follow through,” Olauson said. “The puck came back to me, over to Swides (for the shot), and then their goalie was just a little bit out of position when I turned around and got the rebound goal.”
