Eric Slais lifts Ice Bears in Overtime, 4-3
date: 11/13/2011Just a little space and a bit of luck was all Knoxville forward Eric Slais needed Saturday night.
Slais’ goal at the 1:19 mark of overtime lifted the Ice Bears to a 4-3 Southern Professional Hockey Leaguevictory over Columbus in front of 4,161 fans at Scout Night inside the Civic Coliseum.
Slais, a second-year Ice Bear and former Brown University player, got the puck on the boards almost behind Cottonmouths goalie Ian Vigier and fired a shot that bounced off the goalie and into the net.
“I just kind of followed up a rebound,” Slais said. “I kind of saw a little bit of daylight in between the post and the goalie and I just threw it to the net, and luckily it went off his back and into the net. It was kind of a lucky goal, but we’ll take it in OT.”
They play host to Augusta next Friday in their only game of the weekend.
