‘Focused attack’ works for Ice Bears, 4-2

date: 02/20/2012

It would have been easy for the Knoxville Ice Bears to lose their focus Saturday night.

The Miss Ice Bears Competition took place at Civic Coliseum along with a Southern Professional Hockey League game against the Huntsville Havoc.

Not a problem for the Ice Bears, who posted a 4-2 victory over the Havoc in front of 4,008 fans. The game lasted almost 3 hours due to 30-minute intermissions as Miss Ice Bear contestants strutted their stuff.

“It’s tough to stay completely focused because you have that extra time in between (periods),” Ice Bears captain Kevin Swider said. “You have to find something to do. I had to eat a little bit in between the second and third (periods) because you get a little hungry the later the game goes on.”

The Ice Bears (26-11-4), second in the SPHL standings, travel to play first-place Augusta (29-9-5) today at 4:35. Both teams will be playing their third game in three days.
