Ice Bears acknowledged on NBC
date: 05/05/2009The Knoxville Ice Bears were acknowledged by Doc Emrick on Sunday, May 3 during the Detroit Rewings/Anaheim Ducks playoff game on NBC for winning back-to-back championships.
The Knoxville Ice Bears were awarded the President’s Cup Trophy on Thursday, April 16, 2009 for winning the Southern Professional Hockey League playoffs. The Ice Bears also hold the Coffey trophy for the best regular season record. This marks the second straight year that the Ice Bears have acquired both honors, which makes Knoxville the first team in the SPHL to win back-to-back championships.
Three times in the past four years the Ice Bears have been champions of the SPHL. The Ice Bears revealed their resolve when they rebounded from a 3 game to 2 deficit with the Fayetteville FireAntz, and a one-goal deficit in the final period of game 6 to become the 2008-2009 champions.
The Knoxville Ice Bears showed grit and the determination of true champions as they fought to keep the cups in Knoxville.
