Knoxville Ice Bears Acquire Defenseman Martin Kubaliak

Knoxville, TN - Knoxville Ice Bears have acquired 6’ 3” defenseman Martin Kubaliak. The 25 year-old was traded from the Louisiana Ice Gators in exchange for the rights to D Travis Martell and future considerations.

Kubaliak, a native of Slovakia has played four years of professional hockey including three years with the Huntsville Havoc of the SPHL.  The seasoned blueliner will be coming to Knoxville with his wife Larie and daughter Marlie.

Primarily a shut-down defenseman, Kubaliak plays a physical style of hockey amassing 466 penalty minutes during his professional career.  He spent the bulk of his play in the SPHL with stints in both the Central and East Coast Hockey League.

"Marty is a big guy who is going to play some big minutes for us back there this season. In my opinion, he is a top defenseman in this league.  After years of playing against him and experiencing his size and strength first hand, I'm very excited to have him wearing an Ice Bear's jersey in 2010. To add Martin is a great step in the direction of making the Ice Bears one of the hardest teams in the league to play against." - Quotes Head Coach Mike Craigen
