Ice Bears defeat IceGators

The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated the Louisiana IceGators tonight at home in front of a crowd of 4,212 fans. This was Louisiana’s first trip to Knoxville, and the Ice Bears power play goals helped them defeat the IceGators 5-2.

 

Ice Bear’s Van Vilet scored on a power play 12 minutes into the first period, which had 12 penalties for 36 minutes, including four major penalties for fighting.

 

Vitek continued the streak with another power play goal, followed by Pelkey, bringing the score to 3-0 Ice Bears.  The IceGators spent 10 minutes in the penalty box, but found a way to battle back with a goal just before the end of the period.

 

Ice Bears almost lost their advantage when they were forced down two men in a 5-on-3 power play, which created an opportunity for the IceGators to score, bringing the score to 4-2.  The pushing and shoving continued until the very end, but Hustead sealed the deal with an open-net goal, bringing the final score to 5-2.
