Knoxville, TN – The Knoxville Ice Bears took the ice at the Civic Coliseum tonight to seek revenge on heated rivals, the Fayetteville FireAntz after losing 3-2 in Fayetteville last Friday. Using the energy from their win against Louisiana on Saturday, the Ice Bears hand Fayetteville their second loss in a row. The Ice Bears stingy defense led them to a two-game win streak and a 2-1 defeat over the FireAntz.
Knoxville’s Jon Higgins was the first to light the lamp, scoring his first professional goal and his first goal as an Ice Bear at 6:50 minutes left in the first period. Ice Bears Captain Mike Bulawka and Jim Jensen were credited with the assist.
Knoxville’s Emery Olauson extended the Ice Bear’s lead to 2 off a pass from Mike Tuomi during a power play just 5 minutes later.
The Ice Bears kept a tight defense through the second period. Fayetteville increased their shots on goal from 8 to 26 during the period, but all attempts to score were shut down by Gallant and both teams saw a scoreless period.
Knoxville lost their chance at a shut-out when Tuomi and newly signed Ice Bear Brett Valliquette were both sent to the penalty box at 6:27 into the third period. Fayetteville’s Chris Leveille took advantage of the 5-on-3 action and moved the puck past Gallant for Fayetteville’s only goal of the game.
Knoxville extends their win streak to 2 with a defeat over the FireAntz, 2-1.
Knoxville battle the Huntsville Havoc on home ice on Dec. 26 for Sponge Bob Square Pants Night. The puck drops at 5 p.m. The Knoxville Ice Bears also host the world’s fastest golfer, David “Ogie” Ogron, as he attempts to break his own record by hitting 50 golf balls in just 30 seconds.
