Ice Bears fall to FireAntz

date: 02/19/2010

After a hard defeat to the Mississippi Surge last night, the Knoxville Ice Bears had hoped to bounce back in their second of seven games in 10 days.  The Ice Bears come up short against the Fayetteville FireAntz in rare back-to-back home losses with a score of 6-3.  Knoxville is now 23-16-2 on the season.

The FireAntz took a quick lead with a power play goal just 1:41 into the first.  Knoxville’s Tim Vitek scored his 11th goal of the season to tie the game at one at the end of 20 minutes of play.

Ice Bears goalie Chad Collins faced seven shots in the second, but was only able to stop four, forcing a change in net to backup goalie Dan Earles.  Mark Van Vliet scored Knoxville’s only goal of the second, ending the period 4-2 Fayetteville.

Fayetteville sealed the deal in the third with two more goals.  Knoxville’s Mike Kneeland tried to lead a comeback with his second goal of the season at 13:51 into the third, but the Ice Bears were unable to catch the FireAntz, who have won their fourth game in a row, 6-3.

The Ice Bears travel to Fayetteville tomorrow for a rematch with the FireAntz.

PLEASE NOTE: The Knoxville Ice Bears will not be broadcasting their game in Fayetteville on Saturday, February 20 online. We apologize about any inconvenience, and we are working diligently to correct the technical issues. The game will be shown on B2.
