Ice Bears get a come back win

Knoxville’s flurry of roster changes seems to have done the trick as the Ice Bears defeat the Fayetteville FireAntz, 7-5, in front of 3,179 fans at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.

 

Knoxville’s Mark Van Vliet scored his sixth goal of the season off a pass from Tim Vitek and Kevin Swider just two minutes into the first period, Fayetteville quickly answered back with three goals in less than three minutes.  Knoxville’s Frank Furdero changed the momentum of the game with his 18th goal of the season, with help from Darcy Rees and goalie Andrew Gallant.  Rees is playing his first game of a three game try-out.  With one second left in the period, Taylor Hustead tied the game at 3 on a power play goal with assists from Furdero and Travis Martell.

 

In his first game as a Knoxville Ice Bear, Kyle Bochek lights the lamp off a pass from Hustead.  David Segal extended the Ice Bears lead to 5-5 with help from Jim Jensen and Mike Kneeland 14:21 into the second.  Fayetteville rallied with a goal at 16:17 to bring the score at the end of the second to 5-4, Ice Bears. 

 

Fayetteville’s Rob Sich, who leads the league in points, scored point number 92 and goal number 58 to tie the game at five.  Segal breaks the tie with his second goal of the night and his 12th goal of the season.  Mike Bulawka and Furdero were credited with the assist.  Kevin Swider sealed the deal off a pass from Tim Vitek into an empty net to end the game 7-5.

 

Knoxville’s Kevin Swider extends his point streak to 48 points in the last 25 games.
