Ice Bears Put Forth Great Effort But Lose Two Close Games

date: 01/05/2010

Despite Taylor Hustead’s five goals in two games, the Ice Bears fell short against the Surge and the IceGators.

MISSISSIPPI (Friday, January 1, 2010) – The Ice Bears and the Surge both failed to score a goal in the first period of action. The Surge’s Chris Ferazzoli was the first to put a point on the board in the second period, but Ice Bear captain, Kevin Swider quickly answered back with a nice goal of his own. Swider was assisted by teammates, Taylor Hustead and Tim Vitek. The next two points put on the board were scored by Mississippi making the score 3-1. The Ice Bears rallied back and the result was a third period goal scored by forward, Taylor Hustead.

The Ice Bears put forth great effort, but did not have enough in the tank to defeat Mississippi resulting in the Ice Bears first loss to the Surge this season. The Ice Bears next game against the Surge is February 5, 2010 where they will look for revenge and start another win streak.

LOUISIANA (Saturday, January 2, 2010) – The Ice Bears looked to bounce back and work their way towards the top of the SPHL standings following a tough loss to the Surge the night before. The Ice Bears started off strong with the help of forward, Taylor Hustead’s two first period goals which put the Ice Bears ahead 2-1. Hustead was assisted by Kevin Swider on his first goal and was unassisted on his second. The IceGators came on strong in the second period and ended up knocking in the next four goals of the game. The Ice Bears did not count themselves out though and fought back hard with another two goals by Taylor Hustead in the third period. David Segal, who spent 29 minutes of the game in the penalty box, found time to assist Hustead on his first goal in the third and Kevin Swider added another assist on Hustead’s second.

The Ice Bears fell short once again with a final score of 5-4. Depsite Hustead’s excellent performance, he was not given a Star of the Game award.

The Ice Bears next game is Friday, January 8 when they will face off against the Pensacola Ice Flyer. Watch the Ice Bears road games live on B2 Networks.
