KNOXVILLE, TN – The Knoxville Ice Bears returned to home ice in the Civic Coliseum after a split weekend in Pensacola. A crowd of 2,234 watched as the Ice Bears defeat the Huntsville Havoc 4-2 to extend their perfect home record, handed Havoc their third consecutive loss and sent a lucky fan home $1000 richer.

Emery Olauson was first to find the net when he picked up the puck and ripped a clean shot past Huntsville goalie Corey Milan. The unassisted, short-handed goal gave the Ice Bears an early 1-0 lead. Huntsville answered in the final minutes of the period by beating Knoxville goalie Bryan Hince to tie the game.

The Ice Bears quickly reclaimed the lead 23 seconds into the second period. Milan was out of the net reaching for the puck and David Segal whipped the puck straight past him for his second goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Kyle VanderMale.

The Ice Bears controlled the scoreboard for the remainder of the period. Tyler Fletcher and Nic Polaski ended the period with a major disagreement. Fletcher ended the altercation by sending Polaski to the ice.

1:35 into the third, Knoxville’s Mike Towns and Huntsville’s Sam Cannata squared off in a heavyweight bout that ended with Cannata stumbling to the ice. Huntsville tied the game again at 4:08 when the puck slipped between Hince’s legs.

The Ice Bears severed the tie in a scuffle in front of the net. Three Huntsville players along with their goalie were down in a pile while Kevin Swider stuffed the puck in for a 3-2 lead. Eric Satim and Jeremy Klaver assisted the power play goal.

Less than a minute later, the Ice Bears increased their lead on the power play with  SPHL first and second scoring leaders Swider and Mark Van Vliet. Swider scored the second man-advantage goal, putting Knoxville up 4-2 for good.

The Ice Bears next home game is Saturday, November 12. Puck drops at 7:30 for Scout Night. Tickets are just $8 for Scouts and their family and friends by purchasing through the Knoxville Ice Bears front office by 5 pm on Friday.
