Ice Bears Roar Out of Gates Against Fayetteville
date: 10/28/2011There was no slow start for the Knoxville Ice Bears on Thursday night.
Kevin Swider and Emery Olauson had two goals each as the Ice Bears bolted to a 5-0 lead and beat Fayetteville 6-2 in a Southern Professional Hockey League game before 2,516 fans at the Civic Coliseum.
The Ice Bears (2-0), who struggled with early deficits last season, fell behind 1-0 and 2-1 in last Friday’s season opening victory over the Mississippi Surge.
“You’ve got to have good starts because you can’t keep pulling yourself up, because there’s going to be times you’re not able to,” said Swider, who had three assists.
“To get up with a big lead (3-0) in the first period was pretty big for us and then we got to work on some things and kind of take care of our game and just play a little safer.”
Knoxville plays host to the Mississippi RiverKings tonight at 7:30 in a game matching the SPHL’s career scoring leader, Swider, against the league’s career goals leader, Rob Sich of the RiverKings.
