Ice Bears roster sees movement
date: 12/19/2009The Knoxville Ice Bears roster has seen almost as much action this week as the players on the ice.
Defenseman Jim Jensen was obtained from the Louisiana IceGators in a cash trade and Forward Matt Armstrong was waived from the team. Defenseman Grant Farrell was called up to the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League.
In his first game as an Ice Bear, Jensen had three shots on goal and two penalty minutes in the overtime loss to Huntsville on December 18. The 25-year-old native of Maplewood, Minn., spent the first half of the season with the IceGators, where he had 2 points, 11 shots on goal and six penalty minutes in 13 games. The 6-foot, 190-pound Jensen previously played with the Utah Grizzles and Texas Wildcatters of the ECHL and began his professional career in the USHL in 2001.
Defenseman Grant Farrell, 26, was recalled by the Kelly Cup Champion South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. The Calgary, AB native registered six points (2 goals, 4 assists) in 15 games with the Ice Bears.
The Knoxville Ice Bears have been chosen by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame as the state's 2009 Professional Team of the Year for the team’s outstanding accomplishments. The Ice Bears are coming off back-to-back SPHL championship seasons and have earned three championships in the last four years.
