Ice Bears score big against Surge, 6-1
date: 01/09/2012Despite giving up more than double the shots, the Knoxville Ice Bears rebounded from the first home loss in 12 games Friday night with a 6-1 drubbing of the Mississippi Surge in Biloxi.
The Surge, who beat the Ice Bears 6-5 Thursday at Civic Coliseum, didn’t have a chance Friday in the Southern Professional Hockey League game.
Kyle VanderMale and Emery Olauson each scored in the first period. Mark Van Vliet and David Segal each scored in the second to give Knoxville (21-6) a 4-0 lead, forcing Mississippi (10-14-2) to pull goaltender Kiefer Smiley. Van Vliet’s goal came on the power play.
