Ice Bears sign two more

September 13, 2009 – As the new season approaches Knoxville Ice Bears’ head coach Marc Rodgers has announced two new players that have been added to the roster. Lane Moodie and Travis Hanson are the two newest players to be added for training camp. Lane Moodie will be improving the defense, while Travis Hanson will be giving the offense a boost.

 

Lane Moodie is a 5’11” 218 pound defenseman from Oakville Ontario. He started his career with the Oakville Blades in 2000. He scored 18 goals and had 13 assists with 96 penalty minutes that year. After his first year he continued his career with the Ottawa 67’s, Owen Sound Attack, Windsor Spitfires, and the Winsor St. Clair Saints.

 

“Lane was a first-round selection for the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 2000-2001.  He is an excellent team player, moves the puck really well, and will play physical when called upon.  He is very eager to begin his professional career in Knoxville, and knows exactly what he needs to accomplish to make our hockey club,” stated Rodgers.

 

The other player is Travis Hanson from Bark River, MI. Travis began his career at Finlandia University (NCAA), where his most successful season was 2006-2007. In that season he scored 8 goals and had 10 assists and had 52 penalty minutes.

 

“Travis has been on our radar for 2 years.  He started at the ECHL with Cincinnati after playing 4 years at Finlandia University.  He also played at the IHL level, and comes to Knoxville with a great deal of experience at the professional level.  Travis skates very well, and will be very effective on the fore-check and at banging bodies around,” said Rodgers.

 

The puck will drop on another Knoxville Ice Bears’ season on Friday, October 23 for the Home Opener and Championship Celebration. The defending Southern Professional Hockey League champions will play 28 regular season home games at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Individual tickets will go on sale October 1.
