Ice Bears’ Swider named Sher-Wood Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 20, 2010) – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced Kevin Swider of the Knoxville Ice Bears is the Sher-Wood SPHL Player of the Week for January 11-January 17.
 
Swider, a two-time league MVP, scored three goals and dished out four assists the Ice Bears went 2-1 for the week.
 
On Friday, the Livonia, MI native scored with the man-advantage and assisted on Knoxville’s three other power play goals in a 6-1 win over Columbus.  Saturday night saw the Pensacola Ice Flyers invade the Knoxville Civic Coliseum for the first of two games against the Ice Bears as Swider scored his second goal of the weekend in a 5-4 loss.  Swider and the Ice Bears rebounded on Sunday as the SPHL’s all-time scoring leader tallied one power play goal and set up another in a 6-5 shootout win over the Ice Flyers.
 
Swider, who played his collegiate hockey at Ferris State (MI) University, never finished lower than third in team scoring during his four-year career and led the Bulldogs in scoring his senior season.  Currently fifth in scoring with 20 goals and 20 assists, Swider is gunning for an unprecedented sixth consecutive SPHL scoring title.
