date: 08/12/2009
August 12, 2009 - The Knoxville Ice Bears and the Florence Crittenton Agency (FCA) are teaming up to host a Celebrity Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, August 22 at O’Charley’s in Turkey Creek from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The public is welcome to come and enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, while being served by the Knoxville Ice Bears and other local celebrities. All proceeds will benefit the Florence Crittenton Agency.
“We are looking forward to the Celebrity Pancake Breakfast. It will give us an opportunity to educate people on the services that we provide, and we are excited about partnering with the Ice Bears. This will be one of the unique fundraisers that FCA hosts. We hope to make this an annual event in order to raise funds to support two vital in-school programs, CAPS and VOCA. We hope to make this an annual event in order to raise $3,000 to support our in-school programs CAPS and VOCA. The Child and Parenting Skills (CAPS) is an educational program which focuses on pregnant and parenting teens to break the generational cycle of child abuse. Victims of Crime Advocacy (VOCA) allows for services that improve the health and well being of victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse,” said Cynthia Dodson of the Florence Crittenton Agency.
The Florence Crittenton Agency, located in Knoxville, works to strengthen communities through effective prevention and treatment services to children, families, and pregnant young women. It is their vision to be the agency of choice for young people in crisis, and they accomplish this by creating communities where young people and families receive support, advocacy, and stability. FCA provides residential and outreach services.
Residentially, FCA strives to give young women and men the help and skills they need to become the best that they can be. With all of their clients, they work to teach them how to take care of themselves, giving them back their self-esteem, and teaching them skills for a productive adult life. With their pregnant clients, (they) work to break the cycle of abuse and neglect and teach them skills to prepare them to nurture and raise their babies.
The outreach programs extend into area communities to provide services to help children and youth make good decisions, and to prevent teens in crisis from coming into state’s custody. Giving families the help they need to provide a healthy, safe, and nurturing home for their child is an important part of what FCA offers.
This is the first time that the Knoxville Ice Bears have partnered with FCA.
“We are excited to assist with their pancake breakfast. The Florence Crittenton Agency provides invaluable service to young people and families in the East Tennessee area. It seems that a lot of people do not know about this organization, and we are proud to help support them, while also raising awareness of what they do,” commented Knoxville Ice Bears President and General Manager Mike Murray.
The Celebrity Pancake Breakfast will be a great family event. Members of the Ice Bears staff, the Hunnies promotional team and select players, such as captain Kevin Swider, will be serving guests their pancake breakfasts while mascots Chilly and Nippy visit with the kids. Other local celebrities also plan to attend.
The Knoxville Ice Bears are back-to-back champions in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The puck drops on the 2009-10 season on October 17 with their first exhibition game. Tickets will only be $7 for that night.
Tickets to the Celebrity Pancake Breakfast are $7 for adults, $4 ages 5-12 and children four and under will be free. Tickets can be purchased through the Florence Crittenton Agency or at the Knoxville Ice Bears office. For more information visit http://www.fcaknox.org or call (865) 602-2021.
