Ice Bears to face FireAntz in playoffs

March 29, 2010 - The Knoxville Ice Bears will make a Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) playoff appearance yet again. The Ice Bears are set to face the Fayetteville FireAntz in a best-of-three game series to begin this year’s playoff run. Fayetteville will have home ice advantage.

 

The top six SPHL finishers make the playoffs. Number two seed Huntsville Havoc will play the Pensacola Ice Flyers in a best-of-three series, and the Mississippi Surge will take on the Columbus Cottonmouths in a best-of-five series.  The semi-finals will be played by the winners of the best-of-three series, and the winner of the best-of-five series will receive a bye to the championship round.

 

The Knoxville Ice Bears have clinched playoff berths every year that it’s been a member of the SPHL since 2005. This first round will be a re-match of last season’s championship round where Knoxville defeated Fayetteville four games to three to become the first team to win back-to-back President’s Cup titles.

 

The schedule for round one is as follows:

Game one in Fayetteville on Friday, April 2 at 7:30 (www.knoxvilleicebears.com or B-2 network) 

Game two in Knoxville on Saturday, April 3 at 7:30 

Game three in Fayetteville on Sunday, April 4 at 6 pm (if necessary)
