Jesse Kallechy’s success no surprise to Ice Bears
date: 12/15/2011Knoxville Ice Bears goalie Jesse Kallechy showed last weekend that he’s ready for the Southern Professional Hockey League.
Kallechy, a 21-year-old rookie from Sherwood Park, Alberta, recorded his first two victories as a professional when the Ice Bears swept the Mississippi RiverKings.
He had 37 saves in last Friday’s 4-3 victory — including six in overtime — and 39 saves in last Saturday’s 4-1 win. Previously he had started three games, all losses.
Kallechy, the SPHL’s player of the week, is the backup goalie behind Bryan Hince, but the Ice Bears don’t see much drop-off between the two goalies.
“We were kind of getting sick and tired of telling everybody how good Jesse was,” Ice Bears coach Mike Craigen said. “We all knew it.
