Knoxville Ice Bears add to lead
date: 01/30/2009
The Knoxville Ice Bears started the evening off with a special presentation for J.J. Wrobel a forward who joined the team late last season. On January 23, 2009 Wrobel reached a milestone when he played his 500th professional hockey game. Tonight Wrobel was presented with a crystal trophy, jersey, framed photo and silver stick commemorating his achievement.
Wrobel and the rest of the Ice Bears started the game off strong. Shaun Norrie scored the first of two goals less than five minutes after the puck dropped. The goal was assisted by B.J. Pelkey and J.J. Worble. Brett Smith added another point just a minute later with the help of Chris Rebernik and Justin Keller. Shaun Norrie put another one into the net making the score 3-0 before Ryan Busby scored Richmond’s first goal.
The second period was scoreless, but the Renegades made an attempt to close the gap with a score by Geoff Rollins; however, Knoxville’s Mike Carter put up the final point. Three of four Ice Bears’ goals came off power plays, and the final score was 4-2.
