Knoxville Ice Bears encourage fans to donate blood

date: 02/05/2010

February 5, 2010 – Want to give blood like a hockey player?  Then join the Knoxville Ice Bears as they team up with The Sports Animal for their annual blood drive at the Medic Regional Blood Bank on Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

Knoxville Ice Bears players will be on hand from 2-6 p.m. on February 9, to sign autographs and take photographs while John Wilkerson and Jimmy Hyams of The Sports Animal broadcast “Sports Talk” live from Medic Regional Blood Bank, located at 1601 Ailor Avenue. The Ice Bears mascot Chilly will also be making an appearance.

Everyone who donates blood from 8:00 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. on February 9 will receive a free Knoxville Ice Bears silver flex ticket, which can be redeemed for a silver-level ticket at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum before any regular season home game, and a blood drive t-shirt.

The Knoxville Ice Bears and The Sports Animal have teamed up for this annual blood drive for 5 years and are proud supporters of the Medic Regional Blood Center.

Medic Regional Blood bank is the only blood collector and supplier for all eight Knoxville hospitals and for 20 other hospitals in 21 counties in East Tennessee and Southeast Kentucky.“Medic currently has a need for all blood types so this successful event comes at great time for us.  We are so appreciative of the Ice Bears as well as all the fans who take the time to think of others who might need life-saving blood,” states Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson.  On a normal day, the Medic collects 45-50 pints of blood, however, during last years’ Ice Bears blood drive, they collected 135 pints in one day!
