Knoxville Ice Bears finish tough stretch

date: 02/14/2009

The Knoxville Ice Bears completed one of the toughest parts of their schedule tonight by playing their seventh game in nine days. After losing the past two game son the road, the Ice Bears were happy to be back on home ice tonight, and promptly put the two points on the board against the Twin City Cyclones. Captain Kevin Swider scored a power play goal just over five minutes into the first period. Mike Carter and Kevin Harris assisted the shot. Carter came back for another one when him and Tim Vitek assisted B.J. Pelkey’s goal that make the score 2-0.

The Twin City Cyclones came out strong in the second period and tied the game 2-2. Swartzentruber scored a power play goal assisted by Lefebvre, and Hustead got a short-handed goal in the net before second intermission. The third period remained scoreless until Hustead got his second goal late in the period. The final was 3-2 Twin City.

The Knoxville Ice Bears remain in first place in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The Richmond Renegades, who recently took over second place from the Huntsville Havoc, are 12 points behind Knoxville.
