Knoxville Ice Bears get the win and the sellout

date: 02/06/2009

The Knoxville Ice Bears defeated their rival the Huntsville Havoc in front of a sellout crowd tonight at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum. Ice Bears forward Mike Carter, who is currently seventh in the league in scoring, started the game off with a Knoxville score just 45 seconds into the game. The goal was assisted by Tim Vitek and Kevin Swider. Frank Furdero put the Ice Bears up 2-0 shortly thereafter with an unassisted goal. This was Furdero’s first game back after being activated from the injured reserve list and emergency leave. Chris Rebernik added one more point to the board before Huntsville scored their first goal at the end of the first period.

Travis Kauffeldt, assisted by Martin Kubaliak and B.J. Radovich, scored on a power play goal, but Justin Keller continued his hot streak for Knoxville and scored just over seven minutes into the second period. The same combination of Knoxville players, Kevin Swider, Tim Vitek and Mike Carter, worked together to score the fifth point for Knoxville.

Huntsville tired to even the score in the third period, primarily due to Kauffeldt’s efforts. He scored one point and assisted a goal by Ray Ortiz; however, captain Kevin Swider put the finishing touches on the game with a goal assisted by Chris Brannen to make the final score 6-4.
