Knoxville Ice Bears Hunnies introduce new program
date: 09/09/2009September 8, 2009 - The Knoxville Ice Bears Hunnies announced today that they are introducing a new program for young fans called the Junior Hunnies. The Junior Hunnies program will give girls an opportunity to be involved with a dance group, but more importantly, learn how vital it is to be active in your community.
The Hunnies are a group of ten local women who not only enjoy performing for the Ice Bear home crowds, but also enthusiastically involve themselves in community service. The Hunnies’ mission is to have an impact well beyond dance entertainment at the games, and they wish be positive role models for young fans.
“The Hunnies team has changed a lot of the past few years, into something that we are very proud of. Three seasons ago, the main responsibility of the Hunnies was to perform at games. Now, they are providing increased entertainment to our fans, performing community service projects and fundraisers and serve as positive role models for local girls. The Junior Hunnies program will take their mission to the next level,” said president and general manager Mike Murray.
Girls ages 5-12 are welcome to join the Junior Hunnies. The $60 registration fee includes 3 on-ice performances (1 with members of dance clinic), Official Junior Hunnies tank top & prize pack, free admission to the January 2010 Youth Dance Clinic, Junior Hunnies Night at an Ice Bears game with a red carpet introduction, autographed Hunnies photo, 2 silver flex tickets, public appearances with the Ice Bear Hunnies, Chilly’s Cub Club discount, group ticket rates for family & friends on performance nights and the opportunity to team up with the Hunnies to perform a service project.
In addition to introducing the Junior Hunnies program, the team is also preparing for another youth dance clinc. By attending the Hunnies Youth Dance Clinic on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Green Magnet School, girls ages 5-15 will learn dance techniques, skills and routines from the Hunnies. In attending the dance clinic, participants will have the opportunity to perform at center ice with the Hunnies during a home game. Pre-registration is required.
“The dance clinic gives us an opportunity to interact with young Knoxville Ice Bears fans. Through this interaction, we are able to encourage increased physical activity to girls with a wide range of ability levels. We make the event as fun as possible with activities such as dance skills, a visit by our mascot Chilly and games,” commented Hunnies captain Erica Wilkerson.
