Knoxville, TN – The six-time SPHL scoring champion, two time SPHL MVP and three time SPHL Champion - Kevin Swider will return to the ice for the 2011-12 season.

After spending a year in the front office as the Director of Hockey Operations, Swider has decided to return to the lineup.  The addition to the lineup will add another veteran presence to a solid returning roster.   

“Having Kevin return to our line-up this season is just amazing news for our organization” said Head Coach Mike Craigen. “The opportunity to work with not only the best player I’ve ever seen at this level but also one of my great friends is something I’m very excited about and should have our fans and his future teammates very excited too.

Swider has been a member of Knoxville’s organization in whole or part since the inaugural season, 2002-2003.   Over his eight seasons, he has amassed 676 regular season points (264 goals – 412 assists) in 374 games played, ranking him the all-time leader in goals, assists, points and games played for the organization.

We are looking forward to seeing Kevin’s creativity back on the ice as he finds a way of making those around him better….his leadership will be an asset in order to win our 4th championship,” said President & GM Mike Murray.

Swiders’ offensive production will give the Ice Bears a boost in offense.  During his career, he has averaged 1.81 points per game.  Last season’s team finished fourth in the eight team league in “Goals For” and with the addition of Swider, the production will potentially increase significantly.

All players will be checking in for camp on Sunday, October 9^th at 2 pm at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum.  Swider with all Knoxville Ice Bears players and staff will be available for interviews.

The Knoxville Ice Bears will take the ice on Monday, October 10^th at 10 am with an intra-squad game at 4:30 pm.  The team will run a mixture of practice and exhibition games over the next two weeks.  The season will kick off at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on October 21^st when the Ice Bears host the Mississippi Surge.  The evening will feature a tribute to the launch of the 10^th Anniversary Season.  All Silver Level tickets will be priced at $10 for this game only as part of the kick off to the landmark season.
