Knoxville Ice Bears transactions

date: 11/24/2008

November 24, 2008 – In the wake of winning eight straight games, the Knoxville Ice Bears continue to strengthen their team.

The most notable transaction is the signing of 6’3”, 195 pound forward Shaun Norrie. Norrie was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round of the 2000 National Hockey League draft. Most recently, Norrie came from the University of Lethbridge (Canadian Interuniversity Sports) where he played from 2003 until 2008. During his time there, Norrie played 162 games, scored 52 goals had 52 assists and 324 penalty minutes. Ice Bears head coach Scott Hillman brought Norrie to Knoxville on a three-game tryout on November 15, 2008 and signed him to a contract yesterday.

Shaun Norrie scored one goal and had two assists during his three-game tryout with the Ice Bears.

“The moves we have made as of late are in attempts to replace some of the energy, grit and toughness that we lost with the off-season departure of Mike Craigen. Frank Furdero adds a scoring punch and a ton of energy. Norrie has proven that he can score, throw the body and drop the mitts. Every move we make is to try to put ourselves in position to make a run at the top of the standings. The last two have helped us do that,” commented head coach Scott Hillman.

Only two Ice Bears players have been affected by injuries so far this season. Forward Jon Foster was released by the Ice Bears today. Foster played two games for Knoxville before being put on the 30-day injured reserve list (IR) for a knee injury. Forward Caleb Moffat is finishing out his 30 days on the IR.

The Knoxville Ice Bears return home on Friday, November 28 as they take on the Twin City Cyclones. The annual Weiner Dog Races have become such a crowd favorite that we now host them twice a year. Join us the day after Thanksgiving for the first race. The whole family will enjoy seeing a rink full of Weiner dogs trying to find their way across the ice! This will be the last home game until December 20.
