Kyle Rank keeps pace for Ice Bears, 5-3

date: 02/18/2012

That six-game losing streak the Knoxville Ice Bears endured a couple of weeks ago is becoming a mere memory.

Ricky Helmbrecht had a goal and assist Friday night as the Ice Bears beat the Mississippi RiverKings 5-3 in a Southern Professional Hockey League game before 3,842 fans at Civic Coliseum.

Rookie goalie Kyle Rank had 31 saves and earned the victory. Rank (3-0-1) was signed by the Ice Bears on Jan. 6 and has been in goal for all four games since. His first game was a 5-4 victory over Fayetteville nine days ago that broke the six-game losing streak.

“I mean, another great job in goal by Kyle Rank,” Ice Bears coach Mike Craigen said. “He’s feeling good right now and he’s making saves we need him to make, and I think the team likes playing in front of him,  and that’s made a big difference.”
