Mark Van Vliet Most Improved Player
date: 01/29/2009The 25 year old native of Dorechester, Ontario has 4 goals and 7 assists on the season, giving him a +2 in the 33 games he has played so far.
In December Mark stepped up his game, and in the words of Coach Scott Hillman, he's "a very solid penalty killer and has recently been chipping in on the power play units." The coach noted that #9 has been a steady and reliable force in his first year as an Ice Bear. "Mark has consistently improved his game since he walked in the door during training camp," noted the coach. "Mark is a great skater and is proving that he can handle being put in all situations."
Mark was an integral part of college teams beginning in 2004 when he played for Quinnipiac University and then Neumann College. Even though this is his first season with the Ice Bears, nobody on the team considers him green. "Although Mark has spent his life as a forward his hard work, skilled skating and puck control is paying off as he is playing on the blue line on occasion as well," said Coach. "We are very lucky to have a utility player like Mark in our line-up."
Mark's skills and commitment are one of the reasons why the Ice Bears remain at the top of the standings in the Southern Professional Hockey League.
