Mark Van Vliet Named SBK Player of the Week
date: 11/01/2011CHARLOTTE, NC – The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced defenseman Mark Van Vliet of the Knoxville Ice Bears is the SBK Player of the Week for October 24-30.
Van Vliet scored a pair of goals, added seven assists and was +6 as the Ice Bears won two of three games last week.
On Thursday, Van Vliet scored one goal and assisted on four others as Knoxville defeated the visiting Fayetteville FireAntz 6-2. Van Vliet came back on Friday with a three-assist performance as the Ice Bears extended their winning streak to three games with a 7-4 win over the Mississippi RiverKings. Van Vliet closed out the week by scoring Knoxville’s only goal (short-handed) in a 6-1 defeat at Fayetteville.
Van Vliet, who was named the 2010-2011 SPHL Defenseman of the Year, currently leads the league in scoring (10 points), assists (8) and plus-minus rating (+9).

Skates and Skirts presented by Deane Conley will officially launch on Tuesday, November 15th and will be the first of four events this season. The opening event will hosted by Old City Entertainment from 6:30pm-8:30pm. The women’s only club, created three years ago, is designed to provide women the opportunity to learn about the game, players and culture of hockey.
