More than one ‘Super’ winner:  Andrew Gallant named SPHL’s Sherwood Player of the Week

date: 02/04/2009

The SPHL has name Gallant as the Sherwood Player of the Week in recognition of his outstanding 1.5 goals-against-average and a 9.62 save percentage. For his efforts, Andrew Gallant was 2-0 this past week.

The Sherwood recognition is especially notable in the fact that "Gally" is in his first season with the Ice Bears. He went to Manhattanville College, and played one year pro before coming to Knoxville. The 6-2 goalie from Summerside, Prince Edward Island played for the Arizona Sundogs in the Central Hockey League and the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL.

Gallant has been a consistent force for the first place Ice Bears, along with the returning goalie Kirk Irving. In 21 games played this season, Gallant has accumulated 14 wins, four loses, a 2.43 goals-against-average and 634 saves. The Ice Bears teammates and fans tip their hats to Andrew for a performance this week that you could say was..."Super."

The Knoxville Ice Bears play at home Friday, February 6 and Sunday, February 8. Visit http://www.knoxvilleicebears.com for more information.
