Pensacola, FL - The Knoxville Ice Bears boarded the bus this morning with the promise of getting on the right side of the win column. Unfortunately things don't always go as planned -Knoxville fell victim to four unanswered goals to fall to the Ice Flyers 6-3.
The Ice Bears put together a solid first period of play until they fell victim to a power play goal with :08 seconds remaining in the first. The power play goal was scored by Dan Ehrman.

Knoxville game out of the gates in the second stanza with guns blazing, they notched two goals in the first ten minutes of the period. Putting the Ice Bears ahead for the first time in the game were Frank Furdero and Chris Bratina.

The lead didn't last long when Erik Stoyanovich tied the game exactly three minutes after surrendering the lead. Ice Flyer forward Tanner Schultz scored sub sequential goals five minutes apart to put Pensacola up by two. The second period which started so promising for the Ice Bears, ended with Knoxville sitting in a two goal hole.

Knoxville tried to mount an attack in the third period pushing the level of play but Pensacola did not break. The Ice Flyers setting in a defensive shell, waited for their opportunity to counterstrike - Mattt Whitehead seized that opportunity at 11:54 of the third to put the Ice Bears down three.

Not giving up, Rob Campbell scored a power play goal with 4:31 remaining in the game pulling the Ice Bears within two again. With just over three minutes remaining, Pensacola's Brett Parker was called for tripping. Head coach Mike Craigen use the man advantage as a chance to pull even. Pulling Knoxville's goalie, Andrew Gallant for an extra attacker, the Ice Bears fired numerous shots on goal but were not able to find the back of the net.

In the final seconds of the power play, Pensacola was able to dash the Ice Bears hopes of a comeback by notching an empty net goal from the stick of left wing Chris Wilson.

At the end of the evening, the two teams saw their seasons head in different directions. Pensacola is not atop of the SPHL standings and Knoxville currently sits at the bottom tied with Fayetteville and Columbus.

The Ice Bears will spend the week practicing at Cool Sports in preparation for their only game of the weekend when they travel to Augusta to tangle with the RiverHawks. Game will be broadcasted live on ESPN Radio 1180 and AmericaOne. Visit http://www.knoxvilleicebears.com to find out more.
