SPHL Expands to Eight Team Playoff
date: 07/08/2011The Southern Professional Hockey League is expanding its playoff format for the 2011-12 season to include eight teams instead of six.
In a decision made by the SPHL's Board of Governors on Wednesday, the new format will now consist of eight teams starting the playoffs with best-of-three quarterfinals series, followed by two best-of-three semifinal series, and lastly a best-of-three final series to decide the President's Cup.
