This is Why It’s Hot – The Ice Bears App

Before I begin, I expect that every single one of you reading this article that owns a smartphone has downloaded our mobile application by now. If you have not yet, I trust… no, I demand that you download it after reading this piece, it is free after all. Now, let’s start.

We weren’t even dreaming of the possibility of making our own app when we were approached by Chris Rathgeb from Knoxapps.com this summer. We were pretty content with our traditional social media and didn’t really think of how much more awesome it would be to have an app for smartphones.  However, several months later here we are – our Apple version launched on November 2nd and the Droid version on November 7th.  We are so proud and happy to have been able to develop and launch it and are hoping to bring the team closer to all you fans than we already have. A huge thank you has to go out to Chris for his time and dedication to this project.

So then, what is so legit about having our very own Knoxville Ice Bears application that makes all of us at the front office jitter with excitement? Well first of all just to give you an idea of how untapped this market is, only one-third of the NHL teams have their own app, and of course, we are the only team in the SPHL to have a unique app designed specifically for us. Sure, we can communicate with you guys through Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube but nothing says interaction like an app. And besides, social media don’t have the features that I am about to blow your minds with.

If the very existence of this application isn’t enough for you, the features should surely satisfy your appetite. Using my two-billion-year-old iPhone 3, I immediately downloaded and went through the app the day it was released. I can confidently say that it has everything essential that our social media and website have combined plus extra that can be used before, after, and even during the game: From ordering tickets and guessing the attendance to listening to the radio while you watch the live game. What’s my personal favorite, you ask? It would be the Zamboni and chuck-a-puck game that is easy to play and yet so addicting. If it keeps a 21-year-old college student playing for an hour, surely it would keep your five-year-old entertained for at least a while.

Now that you all are absolutely astonished with the existence and the features of our app, I do not think that I need to remind you to go to the Apples App Store or the Droid Market to download it at no cost whatsoever. For those of you who have already downloaded and used it, please go to http://www.facebook.com/KnoxvilleIceBears or to the feedback option on your application and let us know what you think about it.
