Fayetteville, NC - Slow starts are starting to catch up the Knoxville Ice Bears. Knoxville gave up a goal in the first minute of play in the first and second periods to put the Ice Bears into an uphill battle on two separate occasions. Giving up the two early goals were the ultimate short coming in the 5 - 3 loss to Fayetteville FireAntz.

Fayetteville's Chris Leveille put the home team on the board 53 seconds after the puck dropped in the first period to the FireAntz up by 1 - 0. The goal was assisted by Craig Geerlinks and Travis Yonkman.

Yonkman landed in Fayetteville just four hours prior to the start of this evening's game. The rookie backstopper playing in his first professional game stopped 36 of 39 shots to secure the win as well as assisting on the first goal of the game.

Knoxville knotted the game at 1 - 1 on a power play goal by SPHL defensive scoring leader, Mark Van Vliet. Assisting on the goal were Tyler Fletcher and Chris Pontes - Sending the teams to the locker room deadlocked after 20 minutes of play.

Fayetteville came out strong in the second period by taking the lead just 40 seconds in the middle period on Leveille's second goal of the game with assists by Rob Sich and new comer Jason Hill. Eight minutes later, while exiting the penalty box, Sich notched his league leading 13th goal.
Knoxville fought back to keep the game close on their second power play goal by Frank Furdero assisted by Emery Olauson and Van Vliet.

Not lying back, Fayetteville scored just 20 seconds after Knoxville to jump up by two for the second time to end the scoring in the second period.

The Ice Bears entered the third period with tenacity. Chippy play by both teams elevated the emotion of the game with Knoxville scoring their third power play goal of the evening off a scrum in front of the net. Furdero scored his second of the game which was assisted by the face off win by Emery Olauson and a quick shot from Chris Bratina.

Fayetteville's Sich put the game out of reach with a nifty move past a defenseman and a quick shot to beat Ice Bear goaltender Andrew Gallant.

Knoxville Ice Bears are back home Friday night, November 26th at 7:30 pm to take on Columbus Cottonmouths for the ever popular Wiener Dog Race. For tickets call (865) 656-4444 or http://www.knoxvilletickets.com.
