The Knoxville Ice Bears applied pressure throughout Friday night’s contest in Fayetteville, but came up empty-handed as the Ice Bears fell to the Marksmen 2-0 at Crown Coliseum.

Ryan Kenny stopped 30 saves for Fayetteville, who have won three of their last four. The Ice Bears had a three-game win streak snapped with the loss. Stephen Mundinger gave Knoxville a chance to win with 22 saves at the other end.

Fayetteville scored the only goal of the first period when Mike Wilson knocked in a rebound at the end of a two-on-one. Austen Long carried the puck to the right circle where his shot was initially stopped by Mundinger. The puck rolled to the front of the crease where Wilson tapped it back on net at 9:11.

Alex Ambrosio extended Fayetteville’s lead when he intercepted a breakout pass around the right point, skated through the right circle and swept across the crease to find the net at 4:39 of the second.

The Ice Bears setup chances throughout the first 40 minutes, but came up empty. Kenny stopped Derek Osik and Tyler Williams from the slot, turned aside Brayden Stannard’s snapshot from the right circle and blocked Jason Brancheau’s redirect attempt from the right hash.

In the third period, the Ice Bears failed to convert on a pair of power plays and missed out on some key scoring chances. Dawson McKinney was stopped by Kenny on the doorstep and Kenny blocked a hard shot by Carson Vance from the point.

The two teams are back at it at Crown Coliseum Saturday night.
