The Knoxville Ice Bears have reacquired defenseman Ned Simpson in a trade with the Evansville Thunderbolts in exchange for future considerations, head coach Jeff Carr confirmed Tuesday afternoon.
Simpson, a 6-foot-5, 226-pound rookie out of the University of Jamestown began the season with Knoxville, appearing in eight games. He was traded to Vermilion County on December 5 and played four games for the Bobcats before being claimed off waivers by Evansville Last week. He played one game for the Thunderbolts.
“Ned is going to be a big-bodied, simple defenseman that will be good on defensive zone exits,” Carr said in August upon signing Simpson to the team’s training camp. “He’ll be a good gap and he’ll fight.”
Knoxville’s next game will be against one of Simpson’s former teams as the Ice Bears host Vermilion County at the Civic Coliseum Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
In addition, the Ice Bears have also placed forward Brett Menton on waivers.
